More Family Fun

To continue on the subject of FREE family fun activities. I find it very hard to stay indoors today. The weather is beyond beautiful. I can hear birds chirping out my window as my distant neighbor mows their yard. The beginning sounds of summer makes me so HAPPY ! There is something to be said how the mind begins to clear as we begin to open those dirty windows in our homes. Below I have listed some great outdoor activities that I know will put focus on your family as well as give you some great portrait ideas.

1. Visit The Fort Tejon State Historic Park located in Lebec, California. Just north of Valencia (Six Flags). The park is open from sunrise to sunset daily. Holidays closed. The historical buildings are open from 8a.m. to 4p.m. Make sure you check the schedule so that your family can watch a Civil War demonstration. Families get in for $14.00! There is plenty of room for blanket picnics, chairs, and strollers. I believe they do have picnic tables, too. If you have anyone that is sensitive to loud booms, bring ear protection. The cannons can be loud! My boys love the demonstrations as well as taking the half-mile loop trail. There are restrooms available as well as concessions during the demonstrations. Take time for some family fun! Here are some pictures of the boys enjoying their day.

2. Another Family Fun outdoor activity for the summer is the Glow Festival held at the Santa Monica Pier. Last year it was held on 19Th of July. I am not sure if they will have one this summer or in 2010. Just bookmark their site for upcoming events. The event goes from sunset till the next morning. There are scheduled events on the beach, under and on the pier, and Palisades Park. The Glow Festival illuminates the sky with beautiful lights and music. Local and afar artists are commissioned to make brilliant light sculptures from ordinary objects such as water or a soda bottle. Your family will be truly captivated by the lights. I forgot to mention the my favorite part is that you are allowed to stay overnight! Yes that's right, pitch a tent on the beach and enjoy the community slumber party! I promise this event will have your family talking about it year after year.
